Even if you do research online, you will find many people suggesting green coffee as a weight loss remedy. And it might have also worked for some people, I guess! 

And green coffee is indeed less harmful compared to other coffees. Because green coffee contains a very small amount of caffeine as it is unroasted. 

On the other hand, it contains the highest level of chlorogenic acid, which is known to help in weight loss. 

Some people use this as a cure for obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and many other diseases.

Unfortunately, there are no scientifically proven health benefits of green coffee! And human beings should do more research on it.  

Recommended or Safe Dosage of Green Coffee

Green coffee has less amount of caffeine compared to regular coffee. A cup of green coffee has approximately 20-50 mg of caffeine, whereas one cup of regular coffee contains 100 mg of caffeine.

Well, natural things like green coffee don’t cause any major harm to human health. But they can sometimes be harmful if taken in excessive amounts. 

To stay on the safe side, one should know about the recommended dosage of green coffee. 

Although there is no clear evidence about green coffee dosage recommendations, some studies show that− it is safe to take up to 1000 mg of green tea once a day or 400 mg twice a day.

It is seen that most adults take doses of 90-1000 mg of the green coffee extract by mouth daily for about 8 to 12 weeks, depending on their needs. 

As there are no proven health benefits of green coffee, it is better to consult your healthcare provider about its dosage depending on your health to stay safe. 

Safety Tips to Keep in Mind

We are all aware that prevention is always preferable to cure! So, it is prudent to follow some precautions when consuming green coffee.

Even though green coffee has a lot less caffeine than regular coffee. 

Nonetheless, an overdose of green coffee can cause caffeine side effects such as headaches, irregular heartbeat, anxiety, insomnia, dehydration, anxiety, and more.

People facing anxiety disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, or any other major disease should avoid taking green coffee in excessive amounts.

Moreover, pregnant and lactating women should avoid drinking green coffee as there is no scientific evidence that green coffee is safe for them. 

Side Effects of a Green Tea Overdose 

As mentioned earlier, green coffee contains a very small amount of caffeine but the highest amount of chlorogenic acid; too much consumption might lead to the following side effects −

  • Too much chlorogenic acid and caffeine might increase homocysteine levels which are linked to some heart diseases.
  • It can trigger anxiety if anyone is going through some anxiety disorder.
  • Although some studies show that chlorogenic acid is anti-diabetic, excessive consumption of green coffee may cause a sugar imbalance in people who have diabetes.
  • A green coffee overdose can worsen diarrhea or any stomach issue.
  • Chlorogenic acid, when consumed in excess, can aggravate glaucoma (a type of eye disease).
  • Insomnia or sleeping problems can get worse.
  • An overdose of green tea might lead to osteoporosis (a type of disease that weakens bones, makes them fragile, and increases the chance of bone breakage).
