Stewart Scholarship for Research in Public Health

The Stewart Scholarship for Research in Public Health honors Gary Stewart, MD, MPH, a revered public health educator and former ARHP board member, who was instrumental in promoting basic health care and family planning as fundamental rights. For a list of past award recipients, click here.
The Stewart Scholarship supports the cost of attendance at ARHP’s annual meeting for US-based graduate students conducting research in public health. The scholarship includes:
- Conference registration fees
- Cost of transportation to the meeting
- Shared hotel accommodations for two nights
- A one-year membership to ARHP
Application Process
Public health faculty members are encouraged to nominate promising graduate students, and qualified students may also nominate themselves. The following information must be submitted for each applicant:
Completed application form (with nomination information) submitted in one of the following ways:
- Fill out the online application form
- E-mail the application form (.doc) to conferences@arhp.org with the following subject line: Stewart Scholarship – [Nominee’s Name]
- Mail the application form application form (.doc) to Camille V. Harris, program manager, Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP), 1901 L St, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20036
- One letter of recommendation from a faculty member submitted in one of the following ways:
- E-mail to conferences@arhp.org with the following subject line: Stewart Scholarship – [Nominee’s Name]
- Mail to Camille V. Harris, program manager, Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP), 1901 L St, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20036
Selection Criteria and Committee
A selection committee will review and rank the applications received based upon the following criteria:
- Consistency of the candidate’s research with the learning objectives of Reproductive Health 2013
- Potential contribution of the research to the field of reproductive health
- Scientific rigor of the research
- Candidate’s commitment to the field of reproductive health as evidenced by the statement the nominee and faculty recommendation letter
