Wayne C. Shields

Wayne guided the development and implementation of health education initiatives, scientific programs, and policy activities at ARHP since 1991, and has served in his current position since 1998. He is on the editorial boards of Contraceptive Technology Update and Clinical Proceedings in Reproductive Health, and is a contributing editor to Contraception: an International Reproductive Health Journal and the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health. Wayne serves on the advisory boards of the International Consortium for Emergency Contraception and the American Society for Emergency Contraception, and is a board member of Promundo, an international nonprofit organization that promotes gender equality the end of violence against women, children and youth. He is also chair of the Population, Reproductive, and Sexual Health section of the American Public Health Association, and serves on the steering committee as an expert advisor for the Initiative for Multipurpose Prevention Technologies (IMPT) at the Public Health Institute. His primary professional interest is in translating clinical and behavioral science into effective education and communications that creates positive change. He has an undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies and English Literature, and graduate studies in Organizational Management from The George Washington University.
