Objectives from previous program:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the relationship between HPV and cancer, how that relationship is modulated in sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations, and other co-morbidities for which SGM are at risk
  • Explain the potential benefits, myths, and barriers of HPV vaccination in general, and for SGM populations in particular
  • Describe the epidemiology of cervical cancer and its effects on SGM and vulnerable populations
  • Counsel patients on updated cervical cancer screening guidelines in transmen with a cervix and SGM populations

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify factors affecting patient’s perceptions and misperceptions about risks and benefits of contraceptive use and pregnancy
  • Discuss perceptions of significant risk events and side effects

  • Discuss the specific risks associated with pregnancy
  • Identify effective communication strategies and tools within a larger counseling framework to better facilitate patient decision-making

HIV

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the current epidemiology of HIV infection among cis and transgender women in the United States
  • Provide an overview of HIV screening guidelines for different populations
  • Identify non-judgmental, gender and sexuality inclusive counseling techniques for HIV prevention and sexual health
  • Explain current research, gaps in knowledge, and clinical utilization of PrEP in cis and transgender women

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the burden of HPV infections in male patients and sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations, paying special attention to HPV through the lens of intersectionality
  • Address barriers to widespread implementation of HPV vaccination in current practice (including education, access, consent to care, confidentiality, and administrative issues)
  • Explain the potential benefits of preventative care including vaccinations and anal Pap smears, discuss guidelines and recommendations for each
  • Describe the relationship between HPV and cancer and its epidemiology and effects on SGM and vulnerable populations

Psoriasis

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the current epidemiology of psoriasis and the various types through the reproductive lifespan among women in the United States
  • Identify gaps in knowledge about diagnosis and treatment; and discuss current medications used to treat psoriasis in women
  • Use counseling and patient education techniques to facilitate discussions that support sexual and psychosocial health
  • Manage psoriasis throughout patients’ reproductive life spans

Vulvovaginitis

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize the epidemiology of infectious and non-infectious vulvovaginitis
  • Discuss reasons for misdiagnosis and under-diagnosis of common vaginal infections
  • Describe the process for correctly diagnosing patients who present with symptoms of vulvovaginitis
  • Discuss the elements of effective patient education and counseling related to vulvovaginitis
  • List currently available treatments and treatments in development for vulvovaginitis
Jordan Kally is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a registered yoga teacher. Jordan is a gym owner in New York, where he holds personal training/health coaching sessions. He teaches classes on topics which include exercise, weight loss, stress management, sleep, and healthy eating.
