Description of Organization:

The National Women’s Health Network (NWHN) improves the health of all women by developing and promoting a critical analysis of health issues in order to affect policy and support women’s decision-making. The NWHN serves as a watchdog, and engages women in policy change efforts through interconnected grassroots organizing, network building and community education. The NWHN remains true to its feminist progressive roots by relying primarily on members and foundations for contributions and does not accept financial support from drug companies, manufacturers of medical devices or tobacco companies.

The NWHN is seeking a skilled communicator who loves crafting powerful messages for activist audiences, and measuring the results. The communications and digital media manager ensures that the NWHN communicates about women’s health in a way that builds visibility, awareness and power in support of the NWHN’s long-term impact goals, grows its base, and strengthens its financial resources. This position is a great fit for someone who is comfortable with all aspects of communications (including social media), from concept through execution; capable of managing a communications program with limited to no assistance; and able to produce content quickly and regularly throughout the workweek. This position is based in D.C. and is full-time with benefits.



Position Responsibilities:
  • Direct communications strategy
  • Work collaboratively with senior staff to plan online and offline campaigns
  • Write press statements, blog posts, e-alerts and other materials as needed
  • Develop health information materials, including weekly Q&A column
  • Media relations
  • Manage email program, including A/B testing strategies
  • Oversee organizational website and microsites, including new content and features
  • Oversee NWHN’s social media presence
  • Recruit, train and provide direction to the communications intern

    Qualifications:
    • Minimum 2 years of professional communications experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
    • Excellent skill in writing for multiple diverse audiences across a variety of channels
    • Experience in managing projects from inception to completion and measurement
    • A passion for women’s health and reproductive rights highly desired
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Solid analytical and research skills, highly organized
    • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and WordPress highly desired, Blackbaud NetCommunity is a plus
