- Name the two forms of intrauterine contraception currently available in the United States.
- State efficacy associated with intrauterine contraception as compared to other contraceptive methods.
- List selection criteria for appropriate candidates for intrauterine contraception.
- Identify two possible side effects of intrauterine contraception.
A Clinical Update on Intrauterine Contraception: Special Cases. At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Select candidates for intrauterine contraception in patients who:
- Are adolescents
- Are nulligravid
- Have uterine fibroids
- Have cervical stenosis
- Have heavy menstrual bleeding
- Have recently had induced abortion
- Provide pain management during IUD insertion if needed
- Describe special techniques to visualize and access the cervix when needed
- Discuss strategies for management and follow-up after IUD insertion

DESIGNATION ARHP designates this internet enduring material for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
