The current abstinence-only-until-marriage approach to sexuality education in the United States is deceiving our youth. A recent report by Rep. Waxman (D-CA) demonstrated that many of these programs teach factually incorrect and misleading information to young people. In addition, recent studies have called into question the effectiveness of these programs.
The REAL Act will ensure that young people receive medically accurate and scientifically sound information. A more comprehensive approach to sexuality education empowers youth, arms them with information to protect themselves, which then allows them to make wise decisions about their health and well-being.
