Description of Organization: NARAL Pro-Choice New York is the leading pro-choice political and advocacy
organization in New York State. The National Institute for Reproductive Health is our
education and program arm working with state and local leaders to design new
approaches for removing barriers and improving reproductive health care for all women.
Position Responsibilities: Teen Outreach Reproductive Challenge (TORCH®) is a nationally recognized program
that combines peer sexual and reproductive health education and leadership training for
New York City youth. TORCH Peer Leaders build their self-esteem, develop leadership
skills, and learn to make responsible choices. Then they share their knowledge with other
teens by facilitating workshops around New York City.
As part of the TORCH Program, the Adolescent Health Care Communication Program
(AHCCP) was developed to help providers and teens work together to break down
communication barriers when it comes to sexual and reproductive health issues, and as a
result, improve the delivery of preventive and clinical services to adolescents.
The National Institute for Reproductive Health and NARAL Pro-Choice NY is seeking a
candidate to provide program support for its youth initiatives. This position reports to the
Manager of Youth Initiatives. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with the recruitment, application and enrollment of all TORCH Peer
Leaders.
- Attend and manage all TORCH Senior Peer Leader meetings, including
overseeing the continuing education of Peer Leaders.
- Recruit, coordinate, track and maintaining the database of community-based
organizations for all workshops, including scheduling all workshops.
- Participate in the planning, revision, implementation and evaluation of all
TORCH and AHCCP curricula, as necessary.
- Mentor the TORCH Peer Leadership Team.
- Provide oversight and management of a mystery shopper clinic assessment.
- Outreach and scheduling of AHCCP workshops.
- Coordinate and attend annual leadership training retreat.
- Contribute to ongoing program planning.
- Help monitor and compile all program deliverables throughout the year.
- Assist with data entry, data checks and report writing for final reports
- Manage program websites, including the T-Spot, the TORCH Peer Leader blog
- Conduct site visits and workshop observations, including travel to outer boroughs
as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-4 years relevant work experience.
- Excellent leadership, facilitation and mentoring skills working with a diverse
group of adolescents.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
- Ability to work well in a team as well as independently.
- Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other PC programs required.
