Description of Organization:
Advocates for Youth is an international, nonprofit organization that creates programs and advocates for policies that help young people make safe, responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Assist Division Director to conduct strategic planning for the program
  • Work with Division Director to formulate work plans, time lines, and activities and maintain overall responsibility for programmatic and logistical planning associated with a federal cooperative agreement
  • Act as a liaison with CDC/DASH and other national partners
  • Conduct needs and assets surveys to assess policies and programs of SEAs and LEAs
  • Work with targeted SEAs and LEAs to create advocacy action plans to improve sexual health policies and strategies in their school districts
  • Design, tailor, coordinate and conduct technical assistance and training, including webinars, for partners
  • Build the capacity of SEAs and LEAs to assist school districts to implement sexual health policies and strategies
  • Assist SEAs/LEAs to create policies to improve linkages to sexual and mental health services
  • Assist SEAs/LEAs to develop policies to create safe spaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth
  • Assist SEAs/LEAs to create and/or improve sex education policies and practices
  • Coordinate teacher training, curriculum identification and adaptation and implementation of evidence-based sex education
  • Review, edit, and/or write materials and publications, including fact sheets, literature reviews, and toolkits
  • Work with Division Director to conduct monitoring and evaluation, tracking program deliverables using both qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods
  • Assist partners in data collection
  • Work with CDC to coordinate project activities with other CDC-funded partners
  • Work with Advocates’ Development Department to write funding reports
  • Participate in overall organizational strategic and operational planning
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned. 


Qualifications:

Master’s Degree with five years of experience or Bachelor’s Degree with seven years of experience in adolescent reproductive and sexual health and/or HIV/STI prevention, in a relevant field—preferably health education or public health.

Demonstrated experience working with school districts, including school administrators, to improve policy and/or practice. Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, and management skills. Demonstrated experience in federal grants management. Experience working with: youth leaders, national organizations, youth-serving organizations, and community-based organizations, particularly minority organizations helpful. Ability to travel required.
