Description of Organization:

Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) is collaborating with Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) to enhance the availability, quality and cost-effectiveness of reproductive health care services in the region. As part of this collaboration, PPNYC is currently seeking a qualified physician to serve as Regional Medical Director for Planned Parenthood of Nassau County and as part of PPNYC’s physician leadership team.

Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) is currently recruiting for a part-time Regional Medical Director. This 0.7 FTE position includes approximately 2.5 days/week at PPNC and 1.0 days/week at PPNYC.

This is an Exempt position reporting to PPNYC’s Chief Medical Officer



Position Responsibilities:

Serves as Regional Medical Director for Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC), providing oversight of PPNC’s clinical programs, quality of care, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Senior VP for Health Services. Provides direct patient care services, clinical supervision and training for health center staff at PPNC and PPNYC centers. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of collaborative clinical quality improvement initiatives, training and research programs as appropriate.

  • In collaboration with the Senior VP for Health Services and other key management staff, participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of PPNC’s reproductive health services and programs.
  • Provides oversight of medical activities within all PPNC centers to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to high quality, evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Assumes responsibility for developing, revising and implementing PPNC’s clinical policies, protocols and procedures in accordance with PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines.
  • Provides direct patient care services at PPNC and PPNYC on a scheduled/as needed basis. Services may include surgical abortion, early medication abortion, prenatal care, family planning, colposcopy, cryotherapy, LEEP, ambulatory gynecology.
  • Provides clinical supervision and consultation to staff during center hours and provides physician back-up for the after-hours on-call system.
  • Participates in the training and professional education of clinical staff.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, credentialing, and evaluation of PPNC staff physicians and clinicians; assists in physician scheduling as needed.
  • Provides primary supervision of PPNC’s staff physicians and medical oversight for the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Oversees the quality of ancillary services related to delivery of PPNC’s medical programs (e.g., anesthesia, laboratory and pharmacy services). Serves as the physician of record for ordering and distribution of drugs and devices in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Provides physician leadership in support of PPNC’s Quality and Risk Management (QRM) program.
  • Serves as liaison to hospitals providing back-up services to PPNC for all matters related to the referral, transfer, and care of PPNC’s patients.
  • Initiates, develops and supervises research programs as approved by PPFA and the PPNC Board.
  • Advises PPNC’s CEO and Board regarding medical matters, including the interpretation of PPFA standards and guidelines as applicable to PPNC. Serves as an informational resource to PPNC’s Affiliate Medical Committee (AMC) and coordinates AMC meetings.
  • Represents Planned Parenthood in communications and presentations to the external medical community and public as appropriate.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of collaborative clinical initiatives, training and research programs.


Qualifications:

Requires Doctor of Medicine (MD) with specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology or another specialty with appropriate training and expertise in reproductive health care. Must be licensed to practice medicine in New York State and have active status for specialty Board certification.

Minimum 3 years of related/applicable experience, including experience in both clinical practice and supervision. Demonstrated excellence in relevant ambulatory surgery required, including performance of surgical abortions up to at least 14 weeks’ gestation (second trimester abortion experience preferred), and evidence-based clinical practice in reproductive health. Must possess experience and excellence as a physician leader, clinical supervisor, and medical educator with a track record of success in working collaboratively and in a ‘team-focused’ environment.

Requires excellent verbal/written communication skills, proficiency in basic computer skills and software, including Word, and the ability to learn other software programs as needed.

Must have Saturday availability (minimum 2/month) and all Thursdays, subject to change. Must have willingness to work flexible hours and to travel as needed to provide clinical services, supervision and to attend meetings.
