Description of Organization:
NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the statewide pro-choice organization, seeks a full-time Program Associate. S/he reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for planning and implementing a range of public education and organizational events and membership and social media communications.

Position Responsibilities:

Communications Responsibilities (30%):

  • Website: Update the website regularly, coordinate with staff to include updated information about our programs, and analyze web stats quarterly.
  • Web 2.0 initiatives: Coordinate Web 2.0 communications through Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and blogging. Help build new communications and online membership engagement campaigns.
  • Choice Action Network (CAN): Work with Executive Director to develop and coordinate email alert strategy and outreach plan, draft email copy, and review stats quarterly.
  • Database: Work with Development Director on data management, ensure that volunteer data is kept up-to-date, and perform data cleanups quarterly and yearly.

Outreach and Education Responsibilities (45%):

  • Educational Outreach: Conduct educational outreach around reports and guides with a focus on crisis pregnancy centers, including trainings, house parties, and distribution plans. Outreach will be focused on expanding the organization’s dues-paying membership and activist base and reaching communities of color and low-income communities.
  • Membership and Volunteer Engagement: Work with the Executive Director and relevant staff on engaging members through public education, events, and volunteering opportunities. Maintain relationships with members as appropriate, for example through active student groups or highly engaged volunteers. Coordinate volunteer and intern activity for the organization, including recruiting and engaging new volunteers.

Event Planning Responsibilities (15%):

  • Chocolate Madness: Work with the Development Director to coordinate and manage the organization’s annual signature fundraising event, including managing and supporting volunteer committees, ticket sales, volunteer phone banks, production and mailing of invitations, restaurant participation, and event logistics and follow-up.

Other Responsibilities (10%):

  • GAIN Access Committee: Staff the GAIN Access committee, which utilizes volunteers to build additional policy capacity for the organization.
  • Communications Committee: Support the Communications Committee, which will be formally staffed by the Executive Director.
  • Misc.: Attend all staff meetings and all major organization events. Other responsibilities as needed.


Qualifications:
  • B.A. with demonstrated interest in communications, technology, and women’s health/reproductive rights
  • 1-2 years experience in advocacy organizing or electoral campaigns
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience working with websites and social media and creative thinking around using new media
  • Demonstrated ability to forge meaningful, respectful relationships with volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and public speaking
  • Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and health equity
  • Willingness to work some nights and occasional weekends; statewide travel sometimes necessary
  • Maturity, flexibility, humor, and discretion
