Description of Organization: NARAL Pro-Choice New York is the leading pro-choice political and advocacy
organization in New York State. The National Institute for Reproductive Health is our
education and program arm working with state and local leaders to design new
approaches for removing barriers and improving reproductive health care for all women.
Position Responsibilities: The Policy Manager will work with the Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships to
provide strategic, hands-on public policy guidance and technical assistance to
organizations throughout the country working to advance reproductive health and rights.
The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated with a strong commitment to the
goals of the organization and has experience in reproductive health and rights policy.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Represents the organization in coalitions and at local and national events;
- Identifies, tracks, analyzes and communicates trends in state reproductive health
and rights legislation;
- Helps strategize successful responses to legislative trends and helps advise partner
organizations throughout the country;
- Develops collaborative relationships with allied state and national organizations
to advance NIRH’s work;
- Creates white papers, memos, policy summaries and relevant materials for
internal and external use;
- Stays current on trends in the field of reproductive health and rights;
- Contributes thoughtful and creative ideas and suggestions for colleagues and
partners throughout the country;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A deep commitment to and knowledge of reproductive health and rights;
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience (such as nonprofit public policy or
government relations experience);
- Knowledge of the reproductive health and rights public policy field is essential;
- Willingness to set forth bold and creative ideas to advance reproductive rights;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, the
ability to convey complex information in a clear, culturally competent and
understandable manner;
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including exceptional attention
to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and operate calmly under
pressure;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
- A bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in law or public policy a plus;
- Experience supervising the work of others a plus;
- Some travel required;
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and other PC programs required.
