Description of Organization: For over 35 years, the National Women’s Law Center has led the way in expanding the possibilities for women and girls in our country. The Center uses the law in all its forms: getting new laws on the books; litigating ground-breaking lawsuits all the way to the Supreme Court; and educating the public about how to make the law and public policies work for women and their families. The Center’s experienced staff take on the issues that cut to the core of women’s and girls’ lives in education, employment, health and reproductive rights, and family economic security, with special priority given to the needs of low-income women and their families.
Position Responsibilities: The fellow will work on a range of issues, such as health reform implementation; women’s access to health care, including reproductive health care; issues related to private health insurance; and support for publicly-funded programs that advance women’s health.
Responsibilities include gathering, summarizing, and analyzing research and data from variety of sources; drafting fact sheets, reports and other written materials; attending congressional hearings and other briefings; tracking legislative news; and working with national and state-based women’s health advocates.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. At least one year of post-college experience working in a research, advocacy, or policymaking environment or master’s degree in health policy, public policy, or public health preferred.
Must have strong research skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and facility with Microsoft Windows-based software. Must be detail-oriented and able to handle several tasks at once.
