Description of Organization:
The National Women's Law Center is a non-profit organization that has been working since 1972 to advance and protect women's legal rights. The Center focuses on major policy areas of importance to women and their families including economic security, education, employment, health, and reproductive rights, with special attention given to the concerns of low-income women.

Position Responsibilities:
The Health and Reproductive Rights (HRR) Outreach Intern supports the Outreach team with projects and activities spanning many different issue areas such as work on health care reform, family planning, abortion rights, and our various reproductive rights campaigns. These can include conference planning, advocacy communications, fieldwork, resource placement, and webinars/online events. S/he writes blog posts for the Center’s blog, and supports blog marketing efforts. S/he responds to advocacy-related departmental initiatives, assists with general outreach efforts, and attends a variety of rallies, briefings, and hearings around DC. The HRR Outreach Intern also helps develop several databases and lists of state, local, and national advocates and related organizations. Successful interns are proactive, seek out assignments, ask questions, and attend events which provide the opportunity to network with NWLC staff and others in the field.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates should have some college coursework, good research capabilities, and experience in an office environment. S/he must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word is required and experience with Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is desirable. The Outreach Intern should have some familiarity with online communication practices. The intern must be detail oriented and a self-starter. S/he must have the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments by specified deadlines with speed and accuracy. S/he must have a commitment to progressive women’s issues. NWLC internships are unpaid; NWLC will work with students and their universities to provide college credit for the internship.
