Description of Organization: Founded in 1994, the mission of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) is to ensure the fundamental human right to reproductive health for Latinas, their families, and their communities through public education, policy advocacy and community mobilization.
Position Responsibilities: NLIRH seeks a committed individual who is passionate about women’s issues for the new, full-time position, National Field Coordinator. The National Field Coordinator will develop community leadership and expand the grassroots movement for Reproductive Justice in the Latina community, build relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and assist in campaign development and implementation. Candidates must have knowledge and commitment to reproductive health and rights and/or social justice issues. This position will report to the Director of Community Mobilization. Through community mobilization and organizing, the Community Mobilization Program seeks to increase Latina visibility in the reproductive justice movement, cultivate well informed leaders and build state networks of bilingual activists that will inform and support our national policy agenda and strengthen state and national reproductive justice activism.
Responsibilities:
- Support, foster and cultivate development of Latina Advocacy Networks (LAN) located in different states around the country
- Build relationships with LAN coordinators and activists and offer ongoing technical assistance;
- Maintain regular contact with LANs and track and report LAN progress and all outreach activities;
- Identify, build, and develop a diverse group of Latina leaders and activists to organize around Reproductive Justice issues at a local, state and national level;
- Use our website, constituent management software, and new technologies to mobilize constituents to take action on specific reproductive health issues, policies and legislation;
- Support the Director of Community Mobilization in sustaining and/or building regional partnerships in target locations throughout the country which will provide leadership development to leaders in different regions;
- Work with Director of Community Mobilization to plan, develop and implement Latinas Organizing for Leadership and Advocacy (LOLA) and other trainings to LANs;
- Assist with campaign development and implementation;
- Assist in the planning and execution of events, including forums, our National Advocacy Weekend Training in Washington DC and our National Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice;
- Represent NLIRH on panel discussions, roundtables, and other events;
- Support the Director of Community Mobilization in supervising the Community Mobilization Fellow & interns;
- Travel required
Qualifications:
- Minimum level of education required is a Bachelor’s degree
- Prior community organizing or other organizing experience is required
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Dedication and commitment to reproductive health and rights is a must
- Strong writing, research and communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
- Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, think critically, and take initiative
- Ability to work well with a team and take direction and feedback
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office , web/online tools, and social media/new media technologies
- Experience in delivering trainings/workshops highly desirable
