Description of Organization:
PPSLR/SWM is dedicated to provide, protect and support reproductive rights ans services

Position Responsibilities:

Provides quality reproductive and family planning services to patients through patient care and laboratory duties. Cognizant of and compliant with risk management, HIPAA guidelines and quality assurance standards. Makes patient visit in clinic a positive, high quality experience. Contributes to attainment of clinic team goals. Requires travel to other PPSLR sites. Scheduling requirements include two late evenings a week and every other Saturday. This position also requires computer and writing work that will require sitting at a desk for extended periods and requires standing for periods of time in excess of one hour.

  • Weighs and measures (height); performs hematocrit (fingerstick) as needed; obtains patient’s blood pressure reading; records all in medical record
  • Physically prepares examination room for client; stocks room with supplies; takes client to room and gives appropriate drapes/capes; labels appropriate slides/collection medias.
  • Conducts pregnancy tests and other lab tests as needed; educates client on all legal pregnancy options, gives referrals as needed
  • Answers phone calls, assesses client’s need; schedules appointments; addresses client concerns; documents such in chart
  • Resolves client concerns during visit; asks for help if needed
  • FOR PHLEBOTOMISTS: Draws blood following proper medical protocol and following all risk management procedures
  • Gives depo-provera/DMPA injections per PPFA/PPSLR medical protocols; only provides injection following authorization of Nurse Practitioner
  • May be trained to assist with colposcopy, vasectomy, and/or abnormal lab follow-up
  • Documents in legible, accurate English all interactions with clients in corresponding medical records
  • Reports any unusual circumstances to Health Center Coordinator or other appropriate manager and follows procedure as outlined in manuals, memos, and other PP documents
  • If assigned, records all lab results and findings in logbooks and/or computer
  • Follows the most recent PPFA/PPSLR medical standards and guidelines and ensures client is aware of individual follow up plan for medical service
  • Audits medical records for compliance with PPFA and PPSLR medical standards and guidelines
  • Prepares and breaks-down exam rooms in a safe, hygienic manner according to OSHA, CLIA, and infection control standards
  • Sterilizes and cleans instruments and equipment per above
  • Uses equipment per specifications of manufacturer and of PPSLR
  • Labels, packs, etc. specimens according to infection control standards, OSHA regs, CLIA regs, etc
  • Cognizant and compliant with policies and procedures as outlined in affiliate procedure manuals and in the PPSLR Manual of Medical Standards and Guidelines
  • Protects PPSLR and its assets from liability
  • Protects confidentiality of PPSLR clients, staff, volunteers, donors, Board, and all other areas of operation
  • Follows HIPAA privacy and security guidelines
  • Other Duties as Delegated (Applicable to FT/PT benefited employees)
  • Attends and serves on clinic/affiliate committees if directed; communicates discussion and recommendations to clinic site staff
  • If assigned to be the delegate in the absence of the HCC, performs duties outlined
  • Contributes to the growth of clinic by working with the team on developing marketing and budgeting ideas
  • During community outreach activities represents PPSLR mission and goals to the public
  • Assists with training of new staff, volunteers, and/or interns
  • Cooperates with representatives of other departments to achieve agency goals
  • Attends all mandatory training sessions and meetings
  • Assists with filing documents in medical records



Qualifications:
  • Medical Assistant registration preferred, but will consider trained phlebotomists.
  • Experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Commitment to excellent patient care.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills
  • Detail-orientated.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Flexible non-judgmental approach to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with email and Microsoft Windows programs.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
