Description of Organization: Founded in 1992, the Abortion Access Project is a national organization working to increase access to abortion in some of the most challenging environments – specifically rural communities and Southern and Midwestern states. We believe that anyone who cares for women has a role in ensuring accessible abortion care for all women. We support doctors, nurse practitioners, nurse-midwives, physician assistants, registered nurses, social workers, and case workers to take on that role in their professional and institutional contexts.
Position Responsibilities: The Abortion Access Project (AAP) seeks an enthusiastic, goal-oriented and skilled individual to oversee the organization’s individual donor fundraising. As Individual Giving Officer, this individual will manage annual fund activities and will drive the identification, cultivation, and expansion of the organization’s major donor program.
Applications will be considered for part time (30 hr/week) or a full time (40 hr/week) position, with the flexibility to work as part of the organization’s robust telecommuting staff or out of our administrative office in Cambridge, MA. Travel for telecommuting staff is required for organizational meetings (approx. 12 days/year plus an additional orientation period). This position reports to the Deputy Director.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Major and Individual Donors – 80%
- Seek out and conduct phone and in-person visits with prospects and donors in order to broaden AAP’s network of supporters and strengthen relationships with current supporters.
- Take primary responsibility for refining, implementing and maintaining annual fund donor program.
- Analyze individual gifts and coordinate activities to increase support from individual donors.
- Guide cultivation of all donors, with special attention to increasing current major donor commitments.
- Support Executive Director and AAP’s Board in cultivation activities.
- Produce solicitation letters, acknowledgements and other individual donor cultivation tools to achieve individual donor revenue goals.
- Oversee the tracking of individual donor information and giving.
- Fundraising Strategy – 10%
- Work with the Deputy Director and members of AAP’s management team to create an annual fundraising strategy and budget for all development activities that meets annual fundraising benchmarks for individual and major gifts.
- Work with AAP’s Deputy Director and other members of AAP’s Core Functions team to increase AAP’s visibility to potential donors through strategic engagement with the communications program.
- Help communicate AAP’s fundraising goals, strategies and results to AAP’s staff and Board.
- Perform additional team responsibilities - 10%
- Work with Office Manager to monitor AAP’s participation in combined federal campaign.
- Collaborate with other AAP project directors and staff to ensure coordination of program and development work.
- Attend regular meetings and function as a contributing member of AAP’s Core Functions team.
- Participate actively in weekly communications meetings.
- Participate in visibility events, AAP Board meetings, professional conferences and meetings and program activities as requested.
Qualifications:
- Enjoys challenges and has a strong drive to succeed.
- Success in soliciting and securing support from individual and major donors, individually and as part of a fundraising team.
- Ability to flexibly and efficiently coordinate collaborative processes.
- Excellent interpersonal, writing and verbal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, organize work, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. A strong attention to detail.
- Comfort in a small-team, nonprofit environment. Proven success working independently and with a team.
- Curiosity, creativity and a sense of humor.
- Commitment to AAP’s core mission, values and programs.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.
- 4-6 years work experience in nonprofit fundraising required.
