Description of Organization: University Health Services at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking a public health practitioner to develop and implement health promotion and prevention initiatives to address a number of priority health issues using theory and evidence-informed practices, universal, selected, and indicated prevention strategies and environmental management strategies for The University of Texas at Austin community.
Position Responsibilities:
- Utilize a public health approach to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of health promotion and prevention strategies that address priority health issues in the UT student population.
- Use theory and evidence-informed practices and universal, selected and indicated prevention strategies that have a high likelihood of achieving measurable improvements in health behaviors and status and/or academic performance.
- Develop and coordinate strategies for student engagement in health promotion efforts, including recruiting and advising peer educators on health promotion initiatives and special projects. Support development of peer education/campus health advocate program and curriculum.
- Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to inform programs and initiatives. Coordinate, develop, implement, analyze, and report on periodic population-based assessments of health status, needs, and assets of students and environmental assessments of campus community health needs and resources.
- Develop evidence-based and audience-centric health communication messages and campaigns. Manage delivery of health promotion messages via multiple social media outlets. (10%)
- Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to a campus culture of wellness. Serve in a leadership capacity in Wellness Network, UT’s healthy campus coalition.
- Ability and willingness to manage projects on a variety of health topics.
- Supervise student staff including interns.
Qualifications: Required qualifications
- Master's or advanced degree in public health, health education or closely related field.
- Two years of experience directly related to duties/responsibilities of this position
- Extensive knowledge of current/emerging college health issues, intervention methods, health behavior change theories, ecological framework and evidence-based practice
- Demonstrated ability in core areas of assessment, program planning and evaluation
- Demonstrated proficiency in community needs assessment and evaluation including survey design, environmental scans, data collection and other qualitative/quantitative methods
- Demonstrated oral /written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- High level of organizational skills; proven record of delivering quality results in a timely manner
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Excellent computer skills; MS Word/PowerPoint/Excel proficient; working knowledge of SPSS
- Cultural competency; demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Health (CPH), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credentialed.
- Demonstrated experience using innovative technology and methods to enhance outreach efforts.
- Work experience within a higher education setting or with the college student population.
- Familiarity with research and best practices in college health promotion.
- Social media management in a professional capacity.
- Grant writing skills.
