Director, Reproductive Health Program

Description of Organization:
The National Partnership for Women & Families is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to
direct our Reproductive Health Program. The Director will provide overall leadership to advance the
Reproductive Health Program’s work to give every woman access to the full range of reproductive
health information and services, including contraceptive services and supplies, sexuality education,
and access to abortion services. To advance this mission, the Director will develop and implement
legislative strategy for policies within the landscape of health care reform and advocacy.
Position Responsibilities:
- Providing leadership and strategic direction for the National Partnership’s Reproductive
Health Program, including piloting federal reproductive health advocacy.
- Working closely with National Partnership leadership to identify and connect reproductive
health issues to the broad landscape of health care reform and advocacy.
- Serving as the organization’s lead lobbyist/advocate on these policies to Congress and the
executive branch. Educating and briefing congressional staff, members of Congress,
administration and agency staff through in-person meetings, written communications, and
phone calls.
- Tracking and analyzing relevant reproductive health related activity on Capitol Hill, the
executive branch, and in the states.
- Leading the National Partnership’s collaboration with allies and relevant coalitions in the fields
of reproductive health and justice.
- Leading the ongoing strategy for and development of the daily publication “Women’s Health
Policy Report,” an email summary of reproductive health coverage in major media outlets
distributed to 50,000+ subscribers
- In collaboration with the National Partnership Communications Director, leading
communications for the Reproductive Health Program.
- Supervising, mentoring and evaluating reproductive health program staff.
- Working with the organization’s Development team in support of National Partnership
fundraising
The Director will report to Judith Lichtman, Senior Advisor and former President of the National
Partnership, and will manage a staff of three, including policy and legislative specialists
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a creative, self-motivated, strategic thinker with significant experience and
knowledge in the field of reproductive health policy. Other qualifications include:
- Over ten years of progressively responsible work experience is required, with experience in
health advocacy, especially in the arena of reproductive health, strongly preferred
- Substantial legislative policy experience and/or direct lobbying experience at the national
and/or state level
- Excellent research, policy analysis, and written and oral communications skills
- Proven initiative and follow-through, and the ability to work quickly and well under pressure
- Demonstrated success working effectively with individuals from both major political parties
and multiple constituencies
- A strong commitment to women’s health and rights
- Demonstrated success in managing staff and budgets
- JD degree strongly preferred
