Description of Organization: Since 1972, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts has led the way in advancing reproductive freedom for women and families in the Commonwealth.
Our mission is to develop and sustain a grassroots constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy; bearing healthy children; and choosing safe, legal, accessible abortion.
Position Responsibilities: Event Planning and Coordination (45%)
- Chocolate Madness: Work in collaboration with the Program Associate to produce the organization’s largest annual fundraising event.
- Champions for Choice: Produce the organization’s annual major donor event, including working with venue; supporting host committee, the Executive Director, and Board members in fundraising outreach; handling event logistics; and managing production and mailing of the invitation and program book.
- Roe v. Wade event (Amherst, MA): Produce annual Western Massachusetts coalition fundraiser, including working in conjunction with our coalition members on invitations, financials, event logistics, and follow-up.
- House parties: Produce fundraising house parties throughout the year, including supporting hosts, coordinating invitations, and managing event logistics.
Low-Dollar and Online Giving (30%)
- Direct mail program: Manage the organization’s entire appeal/renewal direct mail program and direct mail prospecting program. Duties include: creating annual calendar, writing copy, working with vendors on production and mailing, pulling data, and tracking results.
- Monthly donor program: Maintain and expand pool of monthly donors, send cultivation updates, and upgrade existing donors through email, phone, and mail outreach.
- Online giving program: Develop online fundraising plan and draft email copy with input from the Executive Director.
Major Donors (15%)
- • Major donor program: Support the Executive Director and Board of Directors in outreach to donors throughout the year, coordinate the annual board fundraising campaign, and perform prospecting research.
Other Related Development Administration (10%)
- Donor database: Oversee the organization’s donor database, including ensuring data integrity, list pulling, importing and exporting donor data, and any other requests as required.
- Grant administration: Manage annual grant calendar and coordinate the submission of grant proposals and grant reports.
- Development program analysis: Provide data for annual review of programs, as well as more regular assessments of performance. Review and track Development and other related expenses.
Other responsibilities include:
- Volunteers and interns: Hire and supervise development and event planning interns and volunteers.
- Misc.: Attend all staff meetings, attend board or committee meetings as needed, and attend all major organization events.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years development experience with small nonprofits.
- B.A. with demonstrated interest in women’s health/reproductive rights.
- Event planning experience.
- Familiarity with direct mail programs.
- Experience working with databases, websites, and desktop publishing.
- Highly organized and detail oriented; able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to forge meaningful, respectful relationships with volunteers.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, and public speaking.
- Strong commitment to diversity.
- Willingness to work some nights and occasional weekends; statewide travel sometimes necessary.
- Maturity, flexibility, humor, and discretion.
