Description of Organization: The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum is the only national, multi-issue Asian and Pacific Islander (API) women’s advocacy organization in the United States. We are building a movement to advance social justice and human rights for API women and girls in the U.S. We implement our vision by increasing the leadership, power and visibility of API women and girls through five strategies: base-building and leadership building; community and public education; policy advocacy, grassroots multi-issue organizing; and strategic collaborations. Founded in 1996, we are a growing and dynamic organization with staff in two offices and local chapters in twelve cities.
Position Responsibilities: This position is a significant leadership position for an entrepreneurial and experienced
leader in social justice movements and organizations. The Deputy Director is the leader
responsible for enhancing the internal organization and infrastructure necessary for
NAPAWF’s continued success and growth.
The Deputy Director will be a thought partner to the Executive Director, Miriam Yeung
(his/her direct supervisor). An ideal candidate should be able to both think broadly and
strategically about our work and also be detail oriented and organized about the
implementation and structures necessary to move our vision into reality. The Deputy
Director will be charged with the day-to-day management of facilities, grant and contract
administration, human resources, information technology and special events functions. S/he will also support the Executive Director in fundraising and communications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership and Development
- Work with Executive Director to pace and drive organization development, including
analysis and implementation of priorities, partnerships, and infrastructure needs.
- Integrate operating infrastructure and functions with programmatic efforts, staff,
board and partners.
- Serve as a senior-level thought partner, mentor, and bridge builder for organization as
whole.
Fundraising and Communications
- Work with Executive Director to develop and implement fundraising strategies.
- Manage and coordinate foundation, individual, and events fundraising including
institutional proposal development and grant reporting.
- Partner with program staff to develop and implement social and new media strategies.
- Supervise communications consultants.
Finance, Human Resources, and Administration
- Build organizational infrastructure to support NAPAWF’S work, including finance,
human resources, facilities and technology.
- As a project of the Tides Center, ensure sound fiscal and risk management and
contract and legal compliance, including insurance coverage.
- Monitor budget, financial controls, cash, and investments in accordance with Boardapproved policies.
- Oversee human resource functions and policies and maintain NAPAWF as a great
- place to work and grow professionally.
- Supervise staff and consultants as determined.
Qualifications:
- Four plus years in senior management roles including staff supervision, human
- Resources, fundraising, finance, and/or operations in a social justice nonprofit context.
- High-level, strategic understanding of social change and progressive movements backed by direct experience with grassroots efforts.
- Commitment to the mission, values, aspirations of the organization.
- Experience and cultural competence working in the API community in a social justice
context.
- Past success designing and leading organizational development and capacity building.
- Field and/or large-scale initiative building experience desirable. Experience with strategic, business and scenario planning helpful.
- Ability to implement vision, think strategically, creatively problem solve, exercise good judgment and lead change.
- Proven track record of attracting resources and partnerships and managing external relations.
- Facilitative and collaborative leadership style. Proven ability to work in a dynamic
national team and build working partnerships. Can flexibly share leadership and build
consensus. When necessary, can take initiative and make tough decisions.
- Success supervising and mentoring staff and supporting professional and leadership development. Excellent people skills.
- Excellent communicator and writer with experience as a spokesperson who can articulate messages to different audiences.
- Results oriented.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel.
- Salesforce database knowledge a big plus.
- Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
required.
