Position Responsibilities:
University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Community Health Educator (CHE) for Individual Health Education to provide individual assessments and services for students with alcohol or marijuana policy/law violations or alcohol overdoses. The Community Health Educator reports directly to the Coordinator for Educational Services. Primary responsibilities include providing brief screening, individual assessment, intervention and referral. The job assists with the follow-up process for students who have alcohol-related visits to the Emergency Department at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Additional responsibilities include conducting educational programming for student groups about alcohol (e.g. fraternities, sororities, Residence Hall Assistants, academic classes, etc.). The CHE collaborates with UHS and Student Affairs staff on various health promotion initiatives. The CHE is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards for education and prevention practice within parameters set by relevant professional groups, state and federal agencies and accreditation bodies. Typically requires a Master’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education in health promotion, public health, behavioral sciences preferred. Knowledge of and experience with the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program and motivational interviewing is preferred. Assessment and evaluation experience is important as well as a commitment to working with diverse populations. Outstanding interpersonal communication and dynamic leadership abilities are essential. This is a fixed-term appointment funded through June 30, 2014 with excellent possibility of re-funding.
