Communications Officer

Organization: Provide
Location: Cambridge, MA
Application Deadline: 2/28/2013
Salary: commensurate with experience
Description of Organization: Founded in 1992, Provide (formerly the Abortion Access Project) is a national organization working to increase access to abortion in some of the most challenging environments – especially rural communities and Southern and Midwestern states. We believe that anyone who cares for women has a role in ensuring accessible abortion care for all women. To support health and social service providers as they take on that role, we work in three distinct and complementary ways: 1) training physicians and nurses in uterine evacuation skills; 2) advocating for abortion education in nursing schools and professional nursing associations; and 3) training and supporting health and social service providers to offer abortion referrals to patients and clients.
Position Responsibilities: Provide seeks an enthusiastic, independent and creative professional to expand the organization’s communications efforts. As Communications Officer, this individual will share information about Provide’s on-the-ground efforts with the public and lead the organization’s exploration of targeted campaigns. This full-time (40 hr/week) position reports to the Deputy Director and works closely with the Executive Director and Individual Giving Officer in a collaborative remote work culture. Telecommuting for non-Boston area residents will be negotiated at the discretion of the Deputy Director and requires regular time at Provide’s administrative office (approx. 10 days/year plus an additional orientation period).
