Position Responsibilities:
Planned Parenthood of San Diego & Riverside Counties is seeking a Clinician II to work as a Float in our clinics throughout San Diego County, CA.

The Clinician will provide quality reproductive health care services including exams, diagnosis, treatment, education, and counseling for clients in accordance with PPSDRC protocols. The Clinician will also serve as a medical resource for other licensed and non-Licensed Staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Comply at all times with PPSDRC Medical Protocols.
  • Act as a medical resource and provide oversight of non-licensed clinic staff.
  • Act as a resource and consultant for nursing staff as needed.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat clients’ medical problems relating to reproductive health issues appropriately and only when covered by PPSDRC medical protocols (unless Physician consult sought). Medical problems include but are not limited to vaginal and urinary tract infections, STI’s (including HIV), breast pathology, contraception side effects, pelvic pain, and abnormal uterine bleeding.
  • Perform examinations for initial and returning family planning clients including pap/gyn, STI, breast, contraception, and post abortion exams.
  • Prescribe all FDA approved birth control methods (including emergency contraception) and medications (including medication abortion medications).
  • Insert and remove IUDs as needed.
  • Perform examination and assessment of post abortion clients including pelvic exams and labs when needed. Consult with Physician when needed.
  • Counsel and educate clients on all reproductive health issues, services and programs offered by the Agency.
  • Perform genital examinations, screen and treat STI’s in male clients.
  • Perform microscopic studies of urine and vaginal discharge as needed.
  • Perform microscopic sperm checks (pos/neg only) for post vasectomy clients.
  • Dispense medications and label drugs as required.
  • Follow up on all abnormal lab results and outside referrals in compliance with Medical Protocols.
  • Perform pelvic exams and vaginal ultrasounds to estimate length of pregnancy.
  • Perform MAB services according to PPSDRC protocols when trained and as needed.
  • Follow up on medical abortion clients including confirmatory exam and quantitative BhCG results when needed.
  • Take rotating on-call duties when trained and requested by supervisor.
  • Co-manage, with Physician, possible ectopic pregnancies and other complications of medical abortion clients.
  • Provide orientation and training to Licensed Staff.
  • Complete and maintain drug logs and external Rh control logs.
  • Work directly on Practice Management system for the electronic management of client information including but not limited to client tracking, coding, charting, logs etc.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the Agency’s Practice Management System.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of client information entered into the Agency’s Practice Management system.
  • Provide input to agenda items for staff meetings.
  • Must be willing to work Tuesdays-Saturdays.


Qualifications:
Education:

The Clinician will provide quality reproductive health care services including exams, diagnosis, treatment, education, and counseling for clients in accordance with PPSDRC protocols. The Clinician will also serve as a medical resource for other licensed and non-Licensed Staff.

Experience:

Has completed at least four (4) moths of service as a PA/NPNM at PPSDRC and has evidenced clinical competency through an acceptable 4-month performance review.

OR

Has been newly hired with at least twelve months experience as a PA/NP/NM with another employer. Within a maximum of 4 months, the clinician must be deemed fully competent, as evidenced by an acceptable 4-month performance review.
