Position Responsibilities:

Provides medical leadership to PPNYC and provides direct patient care. Formulates, implements and maintains medical policies and clinical protocols for PPNYC. In collaboration with the VP of Clinical Services, oversees clinical operations, quality of care, and regulatory compliance. Provides oversight of clinical training and research activities. Ensures training, delineations of privileges and clinical appointments for physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians. Represents PPNYC at medical and other professional meetings. Provides direct services to PPNYC clients. As a member of the PPNYC Executive Staff, assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of strategic planning as it relates to medical services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the quality of care provided by physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians providing reproductive health services. Provides medical leadership to the medical staff. In collaboration with VP of Clinical Services, supervises the Associate Vice President for Clinical Services. Supervises all physicians including staff and session physicians.
  • Approves all delineations of clinical privileges and clinical appointments for medical staff.
  • Provides direct patient care.
  • Responsible for supervising the Quality Management Program and for reporting program activities within PPNYC and to regulatory organizations/agencies.
  • Responsible for the development, dissemination, maintenance and regular review of the organization’s medical standards, practices and procedures.
  • Provides medical oversight and approval of clinical research and training activities in PPNYC facilities in collaboration with the Associate Medical Director for Clinical Research and the Vice President of Clinical Services.
  • Assumes responsibility for the recruitment, training, medical supervision and evaluation of all PPNYC physicians.
  • Assumes responsibility for physician staffing and scheduling, including service provision and on-call schedule. Provides back-up when needed for on-call providers.
  • Supervises the clinical practice of PPNYC Advanced Practice Clinicians and oversees the provider evaluation process.
  • Directly supervises medical activities within all centers, evaluating the activities of providers and other clinical staff; insuring compliance with good medical practice and the policies of the organization; overseeing the development, quality and currency of medical manuals, patient instruction sheets and materials, standing orders, medical records, etc.
  • Assumes responsibility for physician review of all medical occurrences.
  • Acts as spokesperson for PPNYC on medical and clinical issues, or as required.
  • Represents the agency and participates in appropriate medical, professional and public health organizations.
  • Responsible for assessing the quality and conformity of ancillary services and equipment purchased or contracted by PPNYC to assure the high quality delivery of medical and clinical services (i.e., anesthesiology services, laboratory services, major medical and surgical equipment, pharmacological supplies, etc.).
  • Participates in development and implementation of the Strategic Plan as it relates to making PPNYC a more effective dynamic and mission driven volunteer and staff organization.
  • Serves as a member of the agency's executive staff participating in the development of overall long range planning, goals and objectives. Participates, as appropriate in regularly scheduled management meetings chaired by the CEO.
  • Participates in board meetings and committees as required.


Qualifications:
Requires Doctor of Medicine (MD) plus New York State Education Department licensure to practice medicine and certification by the American Board of Obstetrics-Gynecology. Must have 3-4 years previous experience in related or applicable functions as Medical Director. Requires demonstrated excellence in surgery (abortion and other reproductive surgeries) and evidenced-based medical-based decision-making. Must possess demonstrated excellence in clinical leadership to physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians with a track record of success in working collaboratively and in a ‘team-focused’ environment.
