Description of Organization: Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan provides quality healthcare to 50,000 patients. Our service area, where we can provide health and education services and raise funds, is in Berrien, Cass, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Van Buren, Wayne, Washtenaw, Genesee, Shiawassee and Saginaw counties. We currently have 15 health centers in Ann Arbor (2), Benton Harbor, Brighton, Detroit, East Lansing, Jackson, Lansing, Livonia, Warren, Ypsilanti, Flint, Burton, Owosso, and Saginaw.
PPMSM is seeking to fill the following position.
Position Responsibilities: We are currently seeking a full time Billing Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the billing department including supervising staff, monitoring claims and payment activity, preparing statical reports, credentialing providers and setting up new contracts with third party payers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor processes and controls to ensure all billing and payment cycles are accurate and timely, in accordance with established internal and third party payer requirements.
- Monitor charge posting, billing, and collection operations for compliance with established policies, regulations, procedures and standards.
- Request, prepare and/or maintain requested reports on billing and collection activities.
- Ensure effective and accurate use of the patient management system as well as electronic health records.
- Analyze monthly reports/statistics and make recommendations for service improvement.
- Ensure compliance with PPMSM personnel policies and procedures, PPFA protocol, legal and regulatory compliance.
- Responsible for credentialing and updating certifications for all clinicians and physicians with various third party payers and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date expertise and knowledge of healthcare billing laws, rules, regulations, and developments necessary for the organization to make informed business decisions.
- Responsible for managing a team of Billing Specialists in a dynamic fast paced team environment.
- Answer billing inquiries from patients, staff, clients and third party payers and resolve patient complaints related to all services provided (i.e., family planning services, medical and surgical abortion).
- Assist with billing activities as needed.
- Maintain excellent communication and relationships with satellite Health Center staff and with resource and supervisory staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises Billing Specialists.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a related field from an accredited college or university and three to five years related experience in a healthcare billing/collections department and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two to three years of management experience.
- Experience in ICD and CPT codes, EOB’s, third party payers, managed care, private pay and HIPAA regulations.
- Proficiency in Windows based applications and MS Office – Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Knowledge of third party operating procedures and practices required.
