Position Responsibilities: As part of the dynamic clinical leadership team at Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC), the Associate Medical Director assists the Chief Medical Officer in the oversight of clinical services, training, quality of care, and regulatory compliance at our health centers. The Associate Medical Director plays a leadership role in the design, implementation, evaluation and continual improvement of PPNYC’s clinical training programs for medical residents, fellows, and students. S(he) serves as the Director of Ultrasonography and provides oversight, quality assurance and continual improvement of the Ultrasound Program at PPNYC. The Associate Medical Director provides direct patient care, including contraceptive management and first and second trimester abortions; clinical supervision for staff; and training for clinical staff, students, residents and fellows. This position offers exciting opportunities for medical leadership, direct patient care, teaching and collaborative research in the field of family planning.
Provides direct clinical services as needed in the following areas: first- and second- trimester surgical abortions, medication abortions, ultrasonography, colposcopy/LEEP, family planning and office gynecology. Provides clinical supervision and consultation to PPNYC clinical staff during center hours and participates in the on-call system. Supervises and ensures the quality and continual improvement of clinical training rotations for medical residents, fellows, and students participating in PPNYC’s Clinician Training Initiative. Duties may include direct training, curriculum development, evaluation of trainees and trainers, communications and meetings with academic training partners, and other activities. Participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of clinical training and education programs for Physicians, Advanced Practice Clinicians, and other clinical staff.
Serves as the Director of Ultrasonography at PPNYC, including: supervision and evaluation of ultrasound technicians and credentialing of new hires; designing, implementing, and evaluating protocols related to ultrasonography; performing quality assurance audits; oversight of equipment needs; leading educational activities pertaining to the performance and interpretation of ultrasonography; and providing clinical consultation related to ultrasonography.
As a member of the staff physician team: shares in administrative duties related to clinical services including credentialing and evaluation of clinical staff, updating PPNYC’s clinical protocols and policies, and other activities as needed; coordinates and leads work teams to plan, implement and evaluate new or improved reproductive health services and programs; participates in the activities of the Patient Safety Initiative and assumes leadership of projects as needed.
Qualifications: Requires Doctor of Medicine (MD) with specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology or another specialty with appropriate training and expertise in reproductive health care. Must be licensed to practice medicine in New York State and have active status for specialty Board certification.
Minimum 2 years of related/applicable experience, including experience in clinical practice, one-to-one training and supervision. Demonstrated excellence in relevant ambulatory surgery required, including performance of first and second trimester surgical abortions (up to 24 weeks’ gestation), and evidence-based clinical practice in reproductive health. Must possess experience and excellence as a physician leader, clinical supervisor, and medical educator with a track record of success in working collaboratively and in a ‘team-focused’ environment. Requires excellent verbal/written communication skills, proficiency in basic computer skills and software, including MS Word, and the ability to learn other software programs as needed.
Must have willingness to work flexible hours, including some Saturdays, and to travel as needed to provide clinical services, supervision and to attend meetings.
