Description of Organization:

The School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Missouri – Kansas City seeks applications for a 12-month tenure, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor or non-tenure track Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor faculty member to teach in our MSN and DNP programs. This faculty member will hold a PhD or DNP as well as certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.

UMKC is commands a leadership role in the Life and Health Sciences in Kansas City. The University of Missouri-Kansas City is a comprehensive urban university with nationally recognized programs in the health sciences, the arts and business/urban affairs.

The state-of-the-art research and instructional building on the Hospital Hill campus at UMKC, places the School of Nursing and Health Studies at the center of Life and Health Sciences education and research, along with the Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry and Medicine. Three teaching hospitals, the Health Department and several clinics are adjacent to the campus. We are linked with Life and Health Sciences research on the Volker Campus in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the Schools of Biological Sciences as well as Computing and Engineering. Research expertise at the School of Nursing and Health Studies spans the translational continuum from basic science to direct patient care, along with community action research which addresses urban health issues, cardiovascular health as well as women’s health. UMKC participates in the Regional CTSA funded by the NIH at the University of Kansas and in an interuniversity research collaborative in the Kansas City region. In addition, the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce identified the development of a Regional Center for Translational research.

The School seeks faculty of regional or national prominence to teach in our innovative programs. Accredited by the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education, the School values excellence in teaching, scholarship, clinical practice and service.



Position Responsibilities:

The faculty selected for a tenured/tenure track position will be expected to:

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and externally funded research;
  • Mentor junior faculty to assist in their obtaining extramural funding;
  • Teach in the educational programs in Nursing;
  • Provide service appropriate to the position;
  • Advance the goals of the School of Nursing and the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Strategic Plan; and
  • Provide guidance in the application of technology to nursing.

The faculty selected for a ranked, non-tenure track position will be expected to:

  • Provide leadership in development and instruction of didactic and clinical courses/ experiences in the undergraduate or graduate programs;
  • Integrate research findings into teaching and practice;
  • Demonstrate expertise in teaching and evaluation;
  • Provide academic advice and assistance on students’ plans of studies and uncomplicated progression;
  • Demonstrate expertise in practice;
  • Provide service appropriate to the position;
  • Advance the goals of the School of Nursing and the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Strategic Plan; and
  • Provide guidance in the application of technology to nursing.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in nursing or a related field;
  • A record of quality teaching and service appropriate to the rank;
  • Eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Missouri; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

In addition the candidates for Assistant/Associate tenured/tenure track Professor must have:

  • A record of scholarship and funded research conducive to tenure eligibility;
  • Experience and/or willingness to mentor faculty and doctoral students; and
  • Expertise in clinical outcomes research.
