- Transforming Maternity Care - 2020 Vision for a High Quality, High Value Maternity Care System, Blueprint for Action and Proceedings from the Childbirth Connection 90th Anniversary Symposium, April 3, 2009, Washington, DC
This open access Jan/Feb 2010 Supplement of Women’s Health Issues was generously supported by Childbirth Connection, a national, not-for-profit organization founded in 1918 to improve the quality of maternity care through research, education, advocacy, and policy. The goal of this Supplement is to widely disseminate the proceedings of the Childbirth Connection 90th Anniversary policy symposium and the preparatory work that led to the success of the symposium. This symposium produced many recommendations for reform and policy action that are provided in this Supplement as a result of a process carefully mapped by Childbirth Connection and its Symposium Steering Committee under the helm of Executive Director, Maureen Corry, and effortlessly executed by Symposium Director, Rima Jolivet.
- Policy and Financing Issues for Preconception and Interconception Health
This open access Nov/Dec 2008 Supplement of Women’s Health Issues contains 13 peer-reviewed manuscripts and two commentaries describing how the nation can improve the health of women and infants with health reforms and more effective public policy. The CDC's “Recommendations to Improve Preconception Health and Health Care” calls for major reforms in the design of coverage to create a comprehensive women's benefit for women of reproductive age. This should include a "well-woman" benefit consisting of coverage of routine preventive visits (including a pre-pregnancy checkup) and a broad array of treatments to reduce identified risks.
- Women's Health and Health Reform: The Economic Burden of Disease in Women
This 2009 report, prepared by the Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health with support from the Moving Forward initiative of the Women Donors Network and the Communications Consortium Media Center, estimates the direct and indirect costs of care for women for the major chronic diseases and conditions that they face across the lifespan. It also identifies the key primary care and preventive services that can lead to prevention, early detection or early intervention for these conditions.
